THE CONTEXT
Across a global IT organization, expertise was everywhere. Visibility was not. Teams in the US, Germany, China, South Africa, and beyond were doing genuinely interesting work, solving hard problems, testing new technologies, delivering complex programs. But that knowledge stayed inside the teams that created it. There was no consistent way to share it, no stage for the people doing the work to teach what they knew, and no culture that said learning was something you contributed to, not just consumed.
Training existed, but it was passive. You sat through it. You didn't participate in it. And when it was over, it disappeared.
The people with the most relevant knowledge weren't outside the organization, they were already in it. The opportunity wasn't to bring in more external content. It was to build a system that made internal expertise visible, shareable, and worth coming back to.
WHAT WE BUILT
TechConnect launched in 2019 as a colleague-powered learning platform, live sessions led entirely by employees sharing what they do every day. Not polished training decks. Real work. Real people. Real knowledge.
Each session was grounded in the corporate IT strategy, keeping the content connected to where the organization was actually headed. Topics ranged across:
Technical Deep Dives
Architecture, platforms, and tools in active use across the organization
Emerging technology
Innovation, AI, cloud, and what's on the horizon
Every session was recorded, edited, and made available for replay, turning a live event into a living content library that kept generating value long after the session ended. The stickiness data backed this up: an average of 57 replay views per session, meaning the audience didn't stop at the live event.
WHAT HAPPENED
Three years in, TechConnect has become a part of the organizations learning culture. What started as an experiment in peer-to-peer learning is now a global learning engine with a consistent audience, a growing library of content, and a culture that expects it.
The numbers tell part of the story: 82+ sessions, 140+ presenters from four regions, 1,700+ live attendees, 3,000+ video views. But the more important shift is harder to measure, colleagues who had never presented publicly found their voice. Teams that rarely interacted started collaborating. Learning stopped being something that happened to people and became something people actively contributed to.
Built by colleagues. Powered by curiosity. Driven by connection.
